Girls end 5-4 in their conference
October 31, 2009 By Bonnie Watson of Van Buren High School
The varsity girls' volleyball team had a great season. They started out with four conference wins against Cardinal, Harmony, Notre Dame, and Danville. Then they came up against the seasonal flu...but they never gave up. We fought hard against New London, our last home game, even with a couple sick. Then we got into regionals playing one of the toughest teams this year, West Burlington. By then, the flu had spread through the squad and the coaches! Starting for the warriors were seniors: Dakota, Hannah, and Taelor; sophmores: Mackenzie, Jessica, and Makenzie. On the bench we had three freshmen: Payten, Jordan, and Hanna. Onah had to cut the season early due to an injury to her shoulder. Next year looks promising. We have a lot of girls out that are very coachable, have positive attitudes, and love playing the game! Thank you to all the fans, parents, players, and community members. Without you, there would not be an us! A better way to chant it is the way the girls did at their games. When they got a kill from a spike, they would get in their huddle and yell, 'YOU KNOW!' |
